Last weekend, the young reps and activists who attended the TUC Activist Academy ‘Get on the Bus to the G20′ weekend school joined over 35,000 others on the Put People First march in London.
To ensure that they were noticed the group carried a banner which they designed themselves along the march route. The group have also made a short film of the day which is currently being edited and will be posted on YouTube shortly.
I’ve not been blogging recently because I’ve been helping to organise the Put People First March for Jobs, Justice, Climate which takes place in London tomorrow. One of the things I’ve been working on is an international dimension to the trade unionists on the march, and the response has been staggering.
Jonathan Mann is doing an ambitious project to write a song a day, on a current affairs topic, or one chosen by web users. Rock Cookie Bottom is doing very well, and he’s churning out great short songs on a dizzying turn-around. We especially liked this one on EFCA – the Employee Free Choice Act – which could see a fairer playing field for US unions currently having to deal with the megabucks US unionbusting industry.
I received this video from one of the young development workers (Jen York) from the RMT. Jen was one of the participants on the TUC course ‘Lights, camera, action’ (which teaches organisers how to make short films for youtube – film/edit etc) and this is the first film that she has produced (using windows movie maker – her union agreed to buy a mac and software for the project – super duper). Jen says that she uses film to talk to those who find reading difficult and also to reach out the younger members.
