Beyond Crisis

I attended an excellent TUC conference yesterday – ‘Beyond Crisis’ – looking at what we should be striving for as a result of the current economic crisis. Good contributions and workshops throughout the day but I was truly impressed by TUC General Secretary Brendan Barber’s contribution in the closing speech of the day. This is not a bid for promotion, honest! If you want an answer to those that say the union movement has no answer or no vision to counter the current economic gloom then I urge you to read Brendan’s speech on the Touchstone blog if you’ve not already seen it. It sets out three clear prioritites – building a greener economy; a new financial system that work for us and not for itself and the finance industry bosses, and; developing economic policies that promote equality and are driven by ordinary workers and not the super rich.
