The Union Advent: 10 Dec

10 Dec 2009, By

Research by the Joseph Rowntree Foundation showed that unions play a significant role in the private sector in enhancing pay and fringe benefits.

They concluded that ‘trade unions continued to raise pay in the private sector … keeping it above the levels in comparable non-union workplaces’. The research also found that about 3 million employees in the private sector (a fifth of all employees) enjoy a pay premium of around 10% directly as a result of strong collective bargaining.
