First Lay Leadership Programme completed
While most eyes have been glued to TVs or websites awaiting the results of the elections and referendum, I’ve been occupied with the final few days of our Lay Leaders Development Programme.
Set over six days, colleagues from national union executives from Accord, CSP, BECTU, NUJ, FBU, UNITE came together to consider the role of strategy for unions, governance and the impact of the global economy on UK unions.
Today was our last day and we finished with presentations from the group outlining the challenges ahead for their unions and how they are going to apply their learning to these.
From looking how to encourage and increase organising, to building links with unions abroad, it was so interesting to see not only what these challenges are, but how union leaders are constructively looking at ways to address them. I was incredibly impressed with how these leaders are shaping our unions.
I can’t wait for the next programme to start, hopefully in November 2011, so watch this space for more details on how you can apply.
