#Oct20 – more solidarity messages

20 Oct 2012, By

The TUC continues to receive solidarity messages for the March for a Future that Works. Among the latest are a message from the European Trade Union Committee for Education (ETUCE) representing 12.8 million teachers, and Belgian Christian trade union confederation CSC.

CSC General Secretary Claude Rolin said:

“Austerity doesn’t work.  It is a dead end for our societies. It is socially unacceptable and economically dumb. There are lots of alternatives to austerity on the way to prosperity. We are convinced that your mass demonstration will give a strong voice to those alternatives in today’s context.”

And the ETUCE European Director, Martin Romer, added:

“The public authorities in the UK just as everywhere else in Europe must recognise that austerity measures are not the key to a sustainable solution. They only increase poverty and working people’s anxiety about their future.”
