Help Mexican unions under attack

28 Oct 2012, By Guest

The TUC and UK unions have been campaigning to support  Mexican unions who are under attack from companies and the Mexican government. United Steelworkers International Director Ben Davis explains what is happening in Mexico in this video.

The companies and the government are  trying to introduce “yellow” or company unions in an effort to dismantle independent unions. Many of those companies are European or US based and their actions are in contravention of ILO Conventions.

The Mexican parliament is now rushing through legislation that will among other things, make it impossible for unions to take industrial action to defend themselves and their members.

The global union federation IndustriALL have set up a special web page urging trade unionists around the world to email Mexican politicians to stop the attack on unions and vote against the legislation.
