Guatemala: where trade unionism gets you shot

12 Nov 2010, By

The situation facing trade unionists in Guatemala is getting grimmer. In the last year, eight trade unionists belonging to the National Front for the Struggle (Frente Nacional de Lucha – FNL) have been killed. Those killings have not yet resulted in any convictions. Now the TUC has protested to the Guatemalan Embassy in London about the shooting of health trade unionist Mateo Lopez, as part of a campaign with Amnesty International. Many of the trade unionists murdered or attacked are exposing corruption by their bosses. You can find out more about the situation facing Guatemalan trade unionists from the ITUC.
